When I pulled the upper from the lower, the buffer and spring came shooting out. When you try to pull it out by the charging handle, it locks up. straight forward and to the point. Since you say you have another bolt carrier from your old A2 and it works, then for process of elimination try swapping individual parts to see if the problem is just on part that may be out of spec, or you may discover that it could be multiple parts. When my upper and BCG was paired with friends lower with no mag in place, the charging handle was very stiff to pull back and BCG stuck in full rear position.
