National Center for Combustion Research and Development

Indian Institute Of Technology Madras & Indian Institute of Sciences, Bangalore
Laser Diagnostics Lab

The LDL is well equipped with several 'state of the art' lasers that are used for the development and application of advanced laser based diagnostics for combustion applications. This includes flow field characterization through 2C, stereoscopic and tomographic PIV coupled with simultaneous measurements to deduce concentrations of radicals like OH, PAH, HCHO through PLIF (both at low and high rep. rates) and of soot through LII in premixed, non-premixed and partially premixed combustion.

Lab Equipments

Dantec High speed OH PLIF
For performing combustion studies by means of PLIF at high (kHz) framing rates to capture the dynamics in various applications. This technique has the advantage of non-intrusive and provides high spatial and temporal resolution. The system contains Nd;YAG and tunable dye lasers which can operate up to 10kHz repetition rate, Synchronization electronics with high temporal precision down to sub-nano second range, and high speed cameras with image intensifier for capturing the fluorescence intensity.
